Community Connection

Black Mamas Village is focused on connecting with the Greater Austin community, whether that be with other mission-aligned organizations, businesses, or people. Building relationships both within and outside of our organization is important to amplify the voices and needs of Black mamas. Our community partners play a large role in helping our events and ideas come to fruition, and that is just one part of our mission under this pillar. Fostering relationships between the Black mamas in our organization is just as important, in fact, that’s the premise of how Black Mamas Village was founded!

Community connection plays a vital role within the Black community, serving as a powerful force for unity, support, and resilience. Through fostering strong bonds and meaningful relationships with other organizations, businesses, and people, we want to provide a sense of belonging, empowerment, and collective strength. The power of community connection lies in its ability to amplify voices, advocate for justice, and drive positive change. It offers a platform for collaboration, mentorship, and collective action, enabling individuals to overcome challenges and unlock opportunities.

Black Mamas Village is committed to upholding our pillar of community connection through our initiatives –

Meal Trains: Meal trains play a crucial role in providing practical help and comfort during challenging times. By organizing a schedule of home-cooked meals for those in need, meal trains alleviate the burden of cooking and grocery shopping, allowing individuals and families to focus on healing and recovery. Beyond the nourishment of the body, these acts of kindness also nourish the soul, creating a sense of belonging and solidarity within the community.

Facebook Geographic Subgroups: These subgroups offer a platform for individuals living in specific geographic regions to come together, share experiences, and exchange valuable information. By having dedicated geographic subgroups for the various parts of the Austin Metropolitan Area, our members can easily connect with others in their vicinity, fostering a stronger sense of belonging and camaraderie. From local businesses and events to neighborhood watch and support networks, these subgroups empower individuals to build social capital and mobilize for positive change within their own communities.

Community Resources: We recognize the value of connecting our group members to other community resources. Our commitment goes beyond providing a space for interaction within our group; it extends to empowering our members with access to a broader network of valuable resources and opportunities. By facilitating connections to other community resources, we aim to enhance the overall well-being and growth of our members. Whether it's access to educational programs, professional development opportunities, or support services, we strive to ensure that our members have the tools they need to thrive.

Some of our community partners include:

  • The Thinkery

  • African American Urban League

  • Jeremiah Program

  • Black Mamas - ATX

By prioritizing community connection, we honor our shared history, celebrate cultural heritage, and ensure that no one is left behind. We believe that together, we can build a stronger, more resilient Black community, where every individual thrives and achieves their full potential.
